CHALLENGE
•Illustrate a children’s story (ages 6–11) that explains the complex topic of soil health and data in an engaging, age-appropriate way.
•Communicate scientific themes like data collection, data privacy, and soil monitoring without overwhelming young readers.
•Create visuals that are both educational and relatable, while aligning with the FAO’s messaging and the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Manage, Monitor.”
•Ensure the story empowers a diverse audience and encourages early environmental awareness.
SOLUTION
•Illustrated a 12-page children's book using vibrant, playful visuals and a curious young girl as the lead character to guide the narrative and enhance relatability.
•Simplified scientific concepts into clear, memorable storytelling through expressive characters and immersive environments.
•Used visual storytelling techniques to make topics like soil data and environmental care both accessible and inspiring.
•Helped FAO celebrate the 10th Anniversary of World Soil Day by transforming vital but invisible issues into a story that informs, engages, and empowers young readers.
